Sunday Skin Secrets #5

10:54:00 Unknown 0 Comments

Is it terrible that until now I have never tried a Clinique product?
To be honest I just haven't felt the need to, my skin generally is very settled & I don't suffer with dry skin or acne problems. I use mostly drugstore skincare products on my face, as my skin doesn't want for much.

My skin is combination, getting a bit oily in the centre throughout the day.

I got this sample with a magazine, so thought I might as well use it.
You know what I really like it!

This is Clinique's dramatically different moisturising lotion+.
(long name much?)

So it says on the tube that this lotion is very very dry skin, however I would have to disagree. If it was, surely it would make my skin super greasy. It's just the right amount of moisture for my skin!

It's moisturising but doesn't leave me too oily or greasy. I still get a bit of oiliness in the centre of my face, but it's mostly just my chin. This lotion also sinks into the skin really quickly, which makes it great if you're applying make up straight after application.

I thought Clinique products were meant to be quite strong, maybe that's just their acne range(s), but this feels more like a Simple product on the skin. It does have scent to it, but it's nothing too offensive or strong, which is also nice.

Overall a really nice moisturising lotion, it doesn't do anything too dramatic (unlike it's name) but it does help keep your skin balanced & happy!

The price of this ranges from £18 - £38, I think the price does put me off a bit. If I did want to have a splurge though £18 doesn't seem to crazy to me for a good lotion I know works with my skin.

Cup o Coffee

20:11:00 Unknown 1 Comments

As you all probably know by now I LOVE Lush's Mask of Magnaminty face mask. So I decided to try another mask by them.
This is Lush's Cup O' Coffee face mask.

This mask is an exfoliating mask consisting of a variety of natural ingredients including ground coffee, cocoa extract, fair trade vanilla & more.

So my thoughts on the mask.
I'm going to be honest here I hate the smell of coffee & this stinks of it! The scent is so strong I could still smell it the next morning when I was washing my face in the shower. This initially put me off this mask.
I have used the mask a couple of times now, because if it gave me amazing results I think I could deal with the smell.

When they say this is an exfoliating mask, they aren't kidding!!
I would only recommend this mask if you have extremely oily skin. I have combo skin, with oiliness in the centre of my face & I found this mask to be very drying.
After I washed it off my skin felt too dry to me, so I actually had to use a hydrating treatment (h2o+ hydrating treatment) to add some moisture back to my face.

This mask might also be good for drying out any nasty spots you have, seeing as it is very drying.

Overall thought, not a product for my skin type.

Everyday Favourites

09:47:00 Unknown 0 Comments

I'm having a little favourites break on the old youtube channel. In case you're missing them though, here are some of my current everyday favourite items!

Soap & Glory Mist You Madly body spray
This is my to go daily fragrance at the moment. It smells of Soap & Glory's original scent, which I'm sure most of you are aware of. It's a perfect everyday scent as it's nice, yet not overpowering. For a body spray this actually lasts a really long time too.

L'Oreal Skin Perfection primer
This is perfect for both make up & no make up days! It acts as a great base if you are wearing make up, however it also has great blurring properties even without make up. It's a great little addition to your skincare/ make up routine.

Simple eye balm
This thing has saved my eyes! I used to really struggle to use eye creams, as my Blepharitis makes my eyes super sensitive & the skin around them. This product has so little in it, which makes it perfect. It's not heavy or stings, it just hydrates!

Lush Bubblegum lip scrub
We are still in that cold spell & my lips keep getting really dry/ chapped so this is ideal to buff that nasty dry skin away. It tastes amazing & really exfoliates my lips.

Nivea Stress Protect anti-perspirant
I've been using this deodorant for so long, it's pretty much a holy grail. It's probably one of the few ones that I've tried that actually works! Although I'd have to say the Nivea one's are pretty good in general.

Soap & Glory Hand Food hand cream
Again this weather is making my knuckles really dry, so currently hand cream is a must! I really like this one because it's non-greasy & smells incredible. The scent is the Sugarcrust scent, which is a sweet citrusy smell. I love it!

Roller Lash

16:53:00 Unknown 0 Comments

As most of you know by now I'm quite a big fan of Benefit Cosmetics as a brand.
They're packaging & products are generally amazing!

So I decided to finally try their Roller Lash Mascara.
I love the They're Real mascara & have claimed it as my holy grail since trying it. However when my eyes are feeling sensitive I just can't wear it. There's something about either the formula or the wand that just makes my eyes go crazy!
Hence why I wanted to try this one, as it claims to be more of a natural not so intensive lash look.

First of all, as usual Benefit are killing it with the cute packaging. A lot of brands really don't try when it comes to sample sizes, not Benefit though!

Onto the shape of the wand, it looks great. I have tried curved wands in the past (by Maybelline) and really liked them, I think they really can help keep a curl! This one is exactly the same. Even without curling my lashes this mascara gave them an awesome curl. I was even getting compliments on how nice my lashes looked (that says something).

The formula is also really nice! It doesn't disappear halfway through the day or flake away. The formula & wand also (most importantly) don't hurt or bother my eyes in the slightest! Ideal!
Overall I think Benefit have done it again & made a really amazing mascara.

I can definitely see myself buying the full size of this once I run out!

Cocktails with Flare?!

13:08:00 Unknown 0 Comments

As part of the lifestyle side of this blog I like to review different brands of food/ drink.
I discovered this new cocktail company called Flare Cocktails.

They are a UK based company & their main product base is canned cocktails with a lower alcohol content. So their range currently only consists of three cocktails, which includes a Mojito, Cosmo & On the Beach (Sex on the Beach, basically). The cans are available from your local Nisa stores & retail for only a £1.

Firstly I think the packaging looks really cool & smart! They're definitely something that would catch my eye in supermarket. The price is also really good too!
The product itself contains only 1 unit of alcohol per can, which is great as you can keep a tab of what you're actually drinking.

So onto the important part, the taste!
They sent me one of each flavour, so I'm going to talk you through my thoughts on each of them.

Firstly though I will say that they all taste quite sweet & sugary. This is due to the low alcohol content, so I imagine they've had to try to recreate the taste of these classic cocktails using sweeteners.

So the Mojito, to me tasted more like a Smirnoff Ice. The overall taste is like alco-pops. It does taste quite nice but not very minty, however I'm not a big fan of mint so this works for me! Overall the Mojito is quite light & easy to drink. You can't taste the vodka much at all in these either.

The Cosmo was very sweet, if you like berry based drinks you'll love it. It didn't really taste much like Cosmo to me other than the cranberry taste. The can does say lime juice etc, but I think with the sweetness it gets a little lost in the drink. Again a very drinkable drink though.

On the Beach, now I think this one was actually my favourite. It had a very peachy fruity taste. This also didn't taste quite so sugary to me. I haven't actually had a Sex on the beach before, so I can't really compare it to that. I do know they are a very fruity cocktail, so based on that I would say it probably does taste somewhat like one.

Overall I would say these aren't a 'drinker's drink, but for someone just getting into drinking alcohol & cocktails these are great. Even if you just fancy a lighter drink these are a great option.

Smokey Palette

20:23:00 Unknown 0 Comments

I am a big fan of Urban Decay Naked palettes, already owning three of them.
So when I first heard about the Smokey palette I knew I had to have it in my collection!

I have to say I really like the packaging, the smoked effect looks really cool. The packaging is all plastic though, so I'm not sure how it would fair if it was dropped (god forbid). The magnetic closure is a new feature, which I think was much needed when you pay £37 for these palettes.

So inside the palette you get a brush, as always. This has the be the best brush out of any of my Naked palettes though. It's double ended, one end being a small crease brush & the other being a tapered blending brush (hallelujah). The brush is a little stiff at the moment, but with use I think it'll soften. I actually really like this brush and will probably use it a lot!

The shadows in the palette are a mix of mattes & shimmers, as well as very varied mix of colour tones.

After initially swatching this palette I thought some of the shades were lack some pigment. However after working with the palette I am really starting to like it. Some of the light matte shades are really only base colours, as they don't show up too much. I also feel like the cooler blue toned shades are a little less pigmented on the eyes than the warmer shades. I don't know why that is.
I'm probably going to get more use out of the warmers colours anyway, but that's not the point.

Overall I like the palette, however I don't think it's my favourite of the Naked palettes I own. My favourite is still Naked 2 currently!

Fragrance Lovin #5

16:52:00 Unknown 0 Comments

Who doesn't love smelling good?
Exactly!

So this leads me onto today's topic which is fragrance, in particular Armani's newest perfume.
I love Armani Diamonds the original fragrance & when I saw this fragrance come out I knew I was going to love it.

This is the Armani Diamonds Violet fragrance, named clearly because of it's colour.

The base notes of this fragrance are amber, vanilla & praline. The heart notes being rose, freesia & lily. Whilst the top notes are raspberry, lychee & passion fruit. This combination sounds like heaven to me! If you've been here for a while you'll instantly know that I love vanilla! Raspberry is also something I love.

This makes for a sweet yet floral fragrance, which just screams sophistication!
It is very similar to the original fragrance, just with that sweeter hint. Personally I love it & know it is going to become a staple fragrance for me!

If you haven't smelt this or the original I would definitely recommend doing so! They are such great fragrances, which are perfect for any age & person. They aren't the most potent of fragrances though, so more is certainly more with these. The packaging is so cool though, just take it out with you!

What's in my Camera Backpack

11:10:00 Unknown 0 Comments

I think most photographers are nosey when it comes to seeing other photographer's kit.
Well I am anyway (I'd just like to note not in a judgemental way)!

I did already do a video on what's in my basic camera bag, which I mostly use in nightclubs which you can check out here.
However I wanted to show you guys what kit is my camera backpack when I'm on a larger scale job.

1. Laptop
This might not always be necessary to take a laptop but on some jobs you get a little time to begin editing & hey if I'm already awake it saves me some work the next day.

2. Nikon D7100
This is my favourite camera & highest spec one that I own so that bad boy is reserved for the big jobs. Like weddings, video shoots etc.

3. Nikon Speedlight Flash Head
If you aren't shooting in studio, you can never really be definite about your lighting situation, so it always does to have a flash head at hand.

4. Different Lenses
I like to take a few different lenses with me on shoots so I can get a variety of different style images, don't go too crazy though!

5. LED top light
I tend to use these mostly when videoing, however you can use them for still photos too instead of a flash head. They create a nice drop off around the subject. I like to label mine up so people know it's a video too!

6. Tripod
Tripods are so damn useful in so many ways you should always have one with you!

Bag Lovin #2

13:13:00 Unknown 0 Comments

It's been a while since we had some bag lovin on this blog, so I'm bringing it back!
I got a new bag recently and am so happy with it I thought I would share it with you guys.

So the bag I got was a Michael Kors bag (I know, everyone has them now). I'll be honest I'd been eyeing the black version of this bag for a while. I really like quilted bags, but know I will never get my hands on a Chanel one, so I figured this was the next best thing!
Michael Kors make really good quality bags & they're soft leather ones are really nice.

So this bag is the Sloan Large quilted-leather should bag. You can get it in a few different colours, but I went for the grey. I went for this partly because it's something different as all my other bags are black & because I just really liked the grey. Grey still goes with everything, like black does.

So the bag itself is made of really nice quality soft leather. It has a shoulder strap with can either be used as two shorter handles or one cross body length handle. I prefer to use it with the two shorter, as it fits perfectly under your arm that way. This is great for anti-theft reasons.
Another thing I really like about this bag is the clasp, as it's not that easy to get into (again for anti-theft reasons this is great. PS can you tell I've had my purse stolen before!!)

My purse fits perfectly in this bag too, which is great as it's quite a large purse. The bag has two sections with a zip section in the middle, as well as the usual phone pockets & back zip. So there are plenty of places to put values, as well as essentials.

Overall it wasn't a cheap bag, but for me definitely worth the price.
I debated over this bag for a while, but the anti-theft features on it really sold me.
I still get super paranoid about my purse & phone getting stolen, but with this bag it's pretty much impossible.

What bag are you loving at the moment??

Testing Tray #2

10:09:00 Unknown 0 Comments

We're in a new year, so what better time to start testing some new products!
So here are a few things that are currently on my testing tray.

Urban Decay Smokey Palette
I got this palette for Christmas & still haven't really used it yet! So I can't wait to see if the quality of this Naked palette stands up to all of the others. I actually really like that there are more matte shades in this palette. The brush in this palette I've already used & I think it's awesome. The shape is so much better than in previous palettes.

Soap & Glory Hand Food
This is Soap & Glory's classic hand cream, which I know I already like for it's none greasy formula, but with a different scent. The scent is the Sugarcrush scent, which I have tried some of the Sugarcrush range before & liked it. So I think this is going to be a good one!

Benefit 'That Gal'
This is one of Benefit's long term products, they've been making it for years. So I'm wondering how it has managed to stick around so long. Surely it must be good! From what I know it's an illuminating base/ primer. Which I'm not always a fan of, but we'll soon find out.

Zoeva Rose Gold Brush Set
Another Christmas gift! I love trying different brands of make up brushes & finding which I love to most. I've heard a lot of good things about the Zoeva brushes, so we're going to be giving them a try. I already love the rose gold theme & the brushes feel super soft, which is always a good start!

Benefit Roller Lash
Another Benefit product I know. However I was such a big fan of the 'They're Real' mascara I wanted to try their Roller Lash to see if it could compare. Having looked at the wand, I think I'm going to like it, but we will see!

Gluten Free Abroad

15:21:00 Unknown 0 Comments

I have been gluten free for quite a while now & this has included some holidays.

I've only been away in Europe over this period, so I'd like you to keep that in mind.
I have heard that certain countries like Australia are amazing at catering for the gluten free population!

So I wanted to talk to you a little about how to go about gluten free abroad & potential issues.

I was actually pleasantly surprised when I went to the supermarkets! I thought they'd have nothing gluten free, however I was wrong. They actually have a reasonable selection, especially if you're only on holiday for a week or two. They have the basics such as cereal, biscuits etc.
The products taste pretty much the same as they do here in the UK.

So firstly, I'd advise going 'self-catering' as this way you can go to shops to find gluten free items & check any necessary packaging. I would also advise looking online for any registered gluten free restaurants around, so you know where you're safe.
Another key thing is learn or write down your requires if you're in a country that doesn't necessary speak English. Language barriers can be hard at the best of times!

Overall, don't ever let your dietary requirements stop you going on holiday or travelling!
It's possible, it just sometimes involves a little more pre-holiday prep.

My Eye Routine!

17:33:00 Unknown 0 Comments

If you've been on my blog a while now, you'll already know that I suffer from Blepharitis, which is an eye condition. If you're new here, firstly hi & welcome!

So yes I am still suffering with Blepharitis, I have now for approximately 1 - 2 years because there is no cure for it. However I do manage my Blepharitis, as best I possibly can.
The main way in which I do this is by using a strict eye cleaning routine.

For those of you who are wondering how to go about this routine or just want to make sure you're doing it right, here is how I do my routine.
If you scroll down there is also a video showing you what I do.

1. Hot Compression.
You can do this using either a flannel or an Eye Bag. I would advise an eye bag as I just find them a lot easier to use, however if you're somewhere without a microwave (ie. on holiday) you might have to use a flannel.  So if you're using an Eye Bag simply put it in the microwave & heat it up to has hot as you can stand on your eyes (you will learn this as you go). Then simply place it on your eyes for at least 10 minutes. Whilst it's on there you can massage the eyes through the bag a bit if you like.
If you're using a flannel, just run it under the hot tap. Again so it is as hot as you can stand & leave on your eyes for 10 minutes. You can massage with this too but be gentle.

2. Cleansing the Eyes.
Now it's time to clean your eyes.
You have a few options including wipes or a lotion. If you use a lotion you will also need cotton rounds to put it onto. I personally prefer wipes as they are quicker, easier & feel they work better. Also please note that I don't mean just any wipes or lotion, they need to be preservative free & specialised for Blepharitis sufferers. The wipes I use are called Blephaclean wipes & are now even available at Boots.
Simply clean you lids & lid margins (between your lashes) with your product of choice, not rubbing too hard.

3. Lubricating the Eyes.
Now you've cleaned your eyes you need to lubricate them. The eye drops I use & doctors generally recommend are Cellvisc. These come in different percentages as well, so if you're finding the 0.5% aren't lubricating enough for you, try the 1%.
This is the easy but sometimes uncomfortable part, putting the eye drops in. These eye drops come in single use packs so aren't to be reused.

Now you are done!
It's seems long when you read it, however it really doesn't take much time in your day.
It does need to be done twice a day though, morning & night.
If you feel your eyes getting dry during the day, have eye drops with you & use them as necessary.

Check out the video demo here:

If you have any other questions, please leave them below.

Go To Face Masks!

10:52:00 Unknown 0 Comments

Today guys we are talking face masks. Now this is a topic I love!
I feel like face masks are possibly one of the most important parts of any skincare routine.

They are a treat that is actually good for you!
(That's perfection right there, if only cake was the same!)

So I wanted to share with you a few of my current favourite face masks.

Lush - Mask of Magnaminty
(normal & self-preserving).
This mask is just incredible, I really can't say anything bad about it. I would say the self-preserving is better targeted at dry skin, whilst the original is more for combo to oily skin so choose according to your skin needs. However they do have everyone covered, good work Lush!
The mask is a mud mask, I believe, packed full of beneficial natural ingredients & costs at the most £9.95.
It is perfect if you're after that glowing skin look & it is also great for getting rid of spots! I would say acne might be a different story, however the natural ingredients will definitely do you no harm.
It does also have some organic ground aduki beans in it which act as an exfoliant when you wash it off.

GlamGlow - Cleansing Treatment
Now this product is on a totally different scale to the Lush masks on price alone. To be honest it's one of those products I hate to like because the price makes me want to cry! However this is my second pot of it so it must be good.
Glamglow is cult beauty brand that so many bloggers/ vloggers talk about & I can see why. This mask smells amazingly yummy & gets rid of nasty spots like no other. If you have any really inflamed & red spots just apply some of this! I've seen it reduce the size of spots by half in just one use (on both me & my brother). It is also great for blackheads, I feel like this really keeps mine from getting too out of control & visible.

NYX Contour Delight!

17:19:00 Unknown 0 Comments

Calling all pale people, this one is for you!
Well, it's not strictly for you, but have a read.

Last year I purchased the NYX Highlight & Contour Pro Palette from Boot.com, yes NYX is now available at Boots online. For any American folk, NYX is quite difficult to get hold of in the UK but not anymore (yay).

So the palette itself retails for £18.00, which you might think is quite a lot for NYX but this palette is totally worth the price. It is also a lot cheaper than some of the cult contour palettes out there, just saying.

The packaging is simple, which I like a lot. Be aware that the powders do jiggle a little in the palette, it's nothing to worry about. I believe it's because you can replace individual shades if you run out (I'm not sure on the availability of replaces in the UK).
The palette contains two shimmer highlights, two matte highlights & 4 matte bronzing/ contouring shades.

The powders themselves are super soft & buttery. They blend really well too, which is what you want from a contour palette! They are also quite pigmented, but not too pigmented if you know what I mean. The shades in the palette are very buildable & there is something for all skin shades too.

This is where the 'pale part' comes in. The two left hand highlight shades are perfect if you're pale, even someone who is literally white could use these! The shimmer highlight is just gorgeous! When I say shimmer I mean it too, there is no chunky glitter in these shimmer highlights, which makes them look natural on the skin.
As for the contour shades I'll admit some of them I probably won't get much use out of, but I love some of the highlight shades so much it doesn't matter!
If you're a make up artist however, this should definitely be in your kit!

The Canon G7X!

19:47:00 Unknown 0 Comments

I wanted this camera for sooooo long, but never thought I'd get the use out of a compact camera.
I was so wrong!

This camera is now part of my everyday essentials & is constantly in my handbag ready to go.
I use this camera for vlogging, blog photos, Instagram photos & just in general if I'm without a DSLR!

The G7X has become THE vlogger camera & I completely see why! With it's flip up touch screen  & Wifi features it is ideal for those documenting their everyday life.

So onto the camera itself. Firstly it is very sturdy, mine has had a few falls & is still in perfect working condition. They are however a little heavier/ larger than some other compacts cameras, this is due to having the flip up screen feature.
The camera also has a variety of settings/ modes however these can be a little hard to work with due to the touch screen, I personally find the manual mode an absolute pain! That said though if I using manual mode I always using a DSLR. The auto mode is more than sufficient for vlogging & taking basis blog/ Instagram photos though!

For someone looking to start a blog/ vlog or both, I would say this is the camera to invest in.
There is no reason you can't film all of you youtube videos on this camera. It fits onto a tripod, so there really is nothing stopping you!

There are a few things I find annoying about this camera however. The first being that the lens cover is pretty much useless, it lets so much dirt in (not cool Canon)! Another thing would be the auto focusing, it can take forever for it to autofocus from one item to another if you don't touch the screen. I have also had to stop recording, touch the screen to focus then start recording again.

So a mixture of good & not very good points, but overall I would recommend this camera. It's a great little piece of kit, especially if you're just starting out! Also Canon has just released a newer model of this camera, so I imagine the price is only going to keep dropping.
