Instagram Look Back #2

As you can tell from the title, this isn't my first blog post from this series!
However it has been at least a YEAR since my first one. Seriously where does time go?!

So here is the second part of my Instagram Look Back series.

If you don't already follow me on Instagram you can by clicking here!

So lets begin.
We're going to start with the top left image, which is a photo of my nails. Now you're probably just thinking 'yeah they're nails & what'. This is the way I had my nails done for my brother's wedding! So they do have some significance really. I am very lucky & have really nice natural nails, so I just had a gel polish put on. I did love to way they looked though!

This second photo is from the day we picked Ed up! He was just gone 8 weeks old when we got him. Look how small & weird he looks! He has grown up so much & has proper pug features now. He looked a like an alien back then (haha, bless him).

This top right image is of a shit ton of Candy Kitten sweets & no, I haven't selected this images because I love sweets! Haha!
It's actually because I have recently been selected to be one of their brand ambassadors, as part of their #sweetsquad. However they are amazing gluten free sweets. Wild Strawberry is my favourite flavour ;)

This fourth photo is one of my favourite photos EVER!
It's a photograph of me & Liam at the Colosseum in Rome. We'd been together only a few months when we went on this trip & it was perfect. I had the best time, with the best company.

This image is just of some lip products, however I chose this one because it really represents the reason I started this blog in the first place, my love of beauty products etc. I love all of these lip products & how this image came out in the end.

This last photo is from when I went to Scotland earlier in the year. I went to go stay with my friends up there. Firstly, I always love seeing my Scottish friends they're lovely, but we also did some really awesome things whilst I was there. We spent a day in Edinburgh, which is where this photo is from. It's actually from the illusion museum.

I love doing this series, because it's a great little memory recap for me.
Hopefully we can make these a more regular thing, maybe every 6 months?!

The Canon G7X!

I wanted this camera for sooooo long, but never thought I'd get the use out of a compact camera.
I was so wrong!

This camera is now part of my everyday essentials & is constantly in my handbag ready to go.
I use this camera for vlogging, blog photos, Instagram photos & just in general if I'm without a DSLR!

The G7X has become THE vlogger camera & I completely see why! With it's flip up touch screen  & Wifi features it is ideal for those documenting their everyday life.

So onto the camera itself. Firstly it is very sturdy, mine has had a few falls & is still in perfect working condition. They are however a little heavier/ larger than some other compacts cameras, this is due to having the flip up screen feature.
The camera also has a variety of settings/ modes however these can be a little hard to work with due to the touch screen, I personally find the manual mode an absolute pain! That said though if I using manual mode I always using a DSLR. The auto mode is more than sufficient for vlogging & taking basis blog/ Instagram photos though!

For someone looking to start a blog/ vlog or both, I would say this is the camera to invest in.
There is no reason you can't film all of you youtube videos on this camera. It fits onto a tripod, so there really is nothing stopping you!

There are a few things I find annoying about this camera however. The first being that the lens cover is pretty much useless, it lets so much dirt in (not cool Canon)! Another thing would be the auto focusing, it can take forever for it to autofocus from one item to another if you don't touch the screen. I have also had to stop recording, touch the screen to focus then start recording again.

So a mixture of good & not very good points, but overall I would recommend this camera. It's a great little piece of kit, especially if you're just starting out! Also Canon has just released a newer model of this camera, so I imagine the price is only going to keep dropping.

How I Edit Instagram Photos

These days you can't just post a standard from the 'back of the camera' (or iPhone for that matter of fact) photo to Instagram.

I love editing photos in general, so editing Instagram photos is a must for me!
Partly because I love doing it & also to make them look 100x better.

So some of the apps I use include, Afterlight, PicFrame, Phonto & more.

Below is a tutorial on how I edit different photos for Instagram:

Blogging Essentials

I've been running my blog for over a year now & I feel like it's only just being to grow.
I think it's all about getting a winning formula together (something I'm still working on).

I'm very active on my blog, as I like to provide you guys with a lot of good content regularly.

So I thought it would be worth showing you guys what my blogging essentials are!

1. Apple Laptop
I have been a Mac user for many years & love them. Sorry to any windows fans out there but it is all personal preference & budget. I am constantly on my Macbook either working on photography stuff or blog/ youtube projects. It is my 'hub' of productively, without it I'd get very little done!
This laptop is what I also edit my blog photos (Adobe Photoshop) & youtube videos (Final Cut Pro) on.

2. iPhone 6
My iPhone is basically an extension of my laptop, when I'm out & about it's the way I keep up to date with all of my social media. It also allows me to communicate with you guys on the go too! I also use it to take & edit my Instagram photos & occasionally my blog photos if for whatever reason I can't use my DSLR camera.

3. Nikon D7100
This is the camera that I use to take my blog photos. It produces amazing high quality images & being a photographer means I can produce some cool/ creative stuff. I take all of my photos in the Manual setting as that's my preferred setting, so I can change any settings (ISO, Shutter speed, etc) I need to according to the lighting I have available at the time.

4. Products
Products, now this one kind of goes without saying but without products to photograph, review & write about generally you are very limited on content. Especially if you're running a beauty based blog.

5. Artificial lighting
This isn't pictured above as I was using it to take the photo, but I like to use artificial lighting quite often to achieve the style & lighting I want in my blog photos. This isn't necessary if you can find some where with great natural light but I just find it makes for a more professional like to the photos. I like to use an LED ring light most of the time & shoot through the gap.

So onto you guys, what would you say are your blog essentials?
Let me know in the comments!

Instagram Look Back #1

I thought it would be interesting to have a little look back at some of my recent Instagram photos & have a recap!

If you don't already follow me on Instagram you can by clicking here!

So we'll start with the top left.
This is the most recent photo, which shows the results of my favourite tanning product by Sun Goddess! I love this fake tan & I'm not really one for fake tanning, so that's saying something!

The second photo is of some band merch. My brother's band to be precise! The band is Everybody Looks Famous, you can check them out here. Even if you just like merch, it's always good to help out unsigned bands.

The photo on the top right is of me riding my horse.
I've being horse riding since the age of 7 & have owned my horse for 8 years. There is nothing more perfect to me than this right here! Horse riding is my little escape & I love it!

The photo on the bottom left is from a meal I had recently.
The restaurant is in The Mailbox Birmingham & is called Gas Street Social. It's quite a casual setting but equally quite fancy. I love the setting & the food. This photo is from the first time me & Reece (my partner) went but we have been back since.

The next photo is off a lovely golden bottle of prosecco & glasses. These were a birthday present for my 21st birthday last year. I included this photo as it was a great time & this was a lovely gift.

The last photo is of my camera (well one of them), to be exact my D7100. I love this camera, it's literally bae (sorry). I use this camera for photoshoots & for filming all of my youtube videos. It's also what I use to take my blog photos. It's just such an important 'tool' to me. I couldn't live without it!

Amazing Fitspo!

We all have those moments when we really don't feel motivated.
Especially when it comes to getting up & going to the gym!

I find Instagram & Twitter to be a great apps to help motivate myself.

Check out the video below for some of my favourite Fitspo:

How I take Instagram photos

Creating cool Instagram photos is a blogger must these days.
A lot of Instagram follows are based of how your Instagram feed looks.

So hows a little insight into how I take my Instagram photos to make sure they're of great quality & style.

I like my Instagram feed to look clean & stylish.
I find the best way to get this look is by using light backgrounds like light wood flooring or a white table top. Darker backgrounds prevent the subjects colours from standing out as much.

Usually, in the summer time at least, natural light will be good enough lighting. However I do sometimes use some artificial LED lighting. I either use this LED top light as pictured above or a ring light. I actually prefer using a ring light as you can shoot through the gap instead of having to shoot around it.

I usually just take my Instagram photos on my iPhone 6 as I feel the camera quality is pretty damn good (for a phone anyway) & it also saves me having to transfer photos from my camera/ laptop. So I can post them straight away.

I like to lay my photos out a few different ways to make them look visibly interesting, subconsciously  using my photography skills of composition.

I do also try to somewhat plan my posts so there aren't too many posts that look the same with the same content. That way your followers don't get bored of your posts & unfollow.

Happy Instagraming!

Get inspired!

We all have things that inspire us & that inspire us in particular directions.
However we do also have those moments where we need a little extra inspiration!

This post is targeted more for inspiration within the fashion world, whether you're a fashion photographer, blogger, designer or anything else.

So here are some of my favourite ways to get inspired.
Firstly books, books can supply you with visible images which can be great and information that can aid your knowledge of whatever your focused subject is. Some of my favourites are these below.
125 is all photographs so perfect for photography based inspiration & Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty is perfect for a designer as it contains stunning images of his collection pieces.

Another way I like to get inspired is by looking on websites such as Instagram, Tumblr, Pinterest etc.
For outfit ideas youtube videos are great too!
There's such an unlimited amount of content on the internet these days it's hard not to be inspired by some of it. If you're looking for something in particular you can really specify your searches on most website too.

Just a little note I'd like to add though, there is a BIG difference between getting inspired & copying someone's work. Take ideas from others and put your own style/ twist on it because copying isn't cool!
