Flawless Matte

Matte eyeshadows are a staple item in any make up kit, however most palettes tend to have very few or none at all! This is where matte palettes can really come into their own, much like this one by Make Up Revolution.

I have tried a few products by Make Up Revolution before, including eyeshadows & they have been a little hit or miss.

So this palette is their Flawless Matte ultra eyeshadow palette. The palette consists of a mixture of cool & warm tone matte eyeshadows. The first thing I will have to credit them on is the mirror in here, it's great! A decent size & good quality.

So although that is nice, what about the eyeshadows themselves.
I obviously haven't tried every single eyeshadow in here, but having tried quite a few I can say they are again very hit or miss. The more I try drugstore eyeshadow palettes the more I think that you really do get what you pay for with eyeshadows!
There is also no correlation on which shades are good or bad, it's literally a lucky dip.

I find this a real shame as this palette had the potential to be great, but unless your really are on a budget & aren't too fussed about the quality, then I wouldn't recommend this palette. I would say, to get the use & moneys worth I'd save up for a better palette.

Revlon Gel Envy

We have reviewed some Gel nail polish here before, however it has been a long time since we talked anything nails! The reason for that is because I have been addicted to having my nails done by a nail tech. I honestly didn't think it would make such a difference!

However there are times when I still do my nails at home & when I do I always use Gel style nail polishes.
As my last review stated I love the Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine nail paints, but they can go a little tacky pretty quickly. So I have been trying these Colour Stay Gel Envy polishes by Revlon.

Firstly, I'd say the brush on these Revlon ones are much better & make for really easy use. However I think the shine & opacity of the different polishes in pretty similar, the Barry M being slightly more gel like. The wear time of both is again very similar, so approximately a week (if you're careful).
I think these are the best at home gel ranges, however the polishes really aren't the star of the show here!..

The polishes are great yes, but my favourite item from this whole collection is the Diamond Top Coat!
The top coat for this collection has become an absolute staple of my nail routine. Even when I have them done professionally, if I catch my nail or anything I apply a little on top & it helps them last that bit longer! It's an awesome top coat, which will make any nail polish appear more like gel. I also find that it helps my manicure last up to two weeks, so double the wear time!

So an overall would recommend, especially the top coat!

MUA Luxe Liquid Lip

Liquid lipsticks are still a hot topic in the beauty community, and I'm just starting to get into it myself. I already own a few liquid lipsticks, however I haven't been completely satisfied with them.
I also am a bit reluctant to splash my cash on them because of this.

So I wanted to try so more drugstore ones. These ones I've had my eye on for a while, as they have some really cool & interesting shades (as you can see). These are MUA - Make Up Academy's Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquers.
I did only pick up a few shades, which are Potent (right above) & Unity (left above).

Firstly, value of money. These are more than worth the spend. At only £3 per lip lacquer you could easily buy the whole collection for the price of some other liquid lipsticks. These definitely fall right into the 'dupe' section!
Another thing about these is the packaging. For the price I really think they've done an amazing job of making them look more expensive. The frosted glass style packaging makes them look so much more high end. They're definitely cute enough to display on your vanity.

So onto the formulation! I would have to say I quite like it! It dries down quickly, but not so quick that you can't correct any mistakes. It also is very comfortable to wear, which is the problem with most liquid lips I've tried. I will say after about 6/7 hours of wear they begin to back up a bit & flake. However chances are I won't be wearing them that long generally.
Above is a swatch of both colours. As you can see the left is a little patchy, which these can be, however they are very buildable. I would recommend doing at least two coats just to be sure & to get the best wear time.

Also is it me, or does Unity (left) look a little like Cashmere by Lime Crime... just saying!

NYX Nude Lip Combo

I love discovering new lip combos that I like to wear. These two items I actually got in the same Boots trip, so it was quite a good find!

My local Boots has just got a NYX Cosmetics stand, so as you can imagine I went a little mad in there.

So this lip combo consists of two NYX products, creating a nude/ pink lip look with a little gloss & shimmer.

The lip liner is the NYX retractable lip liner in Nectar. This lip liner is so easy to use as it's retractable, it also has really good colour pay off. It is quite shimmery though so if you prefer a matte look this one definitely isn't for you. Overall though combined with the lip gloss I don't think it looks as shimmery.

The lip gloss is the NYX Butter Gloss in Angel Food Cake, which is a bit of cult product that has been around for years. However due to lack of availability this is my first one (awww). I have to say I really like it!
It has quite a lot of colour pay off for a lip gloss, but not too much.
It is also very comfortable to wear. I would say it's a little sticky but nothing too annoying or crazy.
It also smells GORGEOUS!

Budget Bests

We all love a good bargain don't we.
So here five are of my favourite budget friendly drugstore beauty products on the market.

Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint
These are possibly my favourite nail polish formula around. They're super cheap at £3.99 & are the perfect way to fake the gel nail look. They also have a huge range of colours from brights to dark & vampy! The formula is pretty good, mine generally don't clip for 3/4 days & start to go a little dull after about 5 days. I would recommend these polishes to any & everyone!

Rimmel Kate Moss Nude Lipsticks
Nude lips are still on trend right now & let's face it they always will be really. These ones from Rimmel are completely matte & have pretty good pay off. For a £7 (approximately) lipstick you really can't complain. I have a few shades from this collection however 45 is my favourite.

Natural World Coconut Water Hair Oil
I really wanted to throw something hair related in this mix, as some hair products can be a bit pricey. Hair oils especially can be quite expensive, however they do generally last a long time! This hair oil firstly, smells incredible. It's worth buying for the scent alone. It is also super moisturising & nourishing for your hair. It is also a non-greasy oil, which is a feature I love!

Make Up Academy Undress Eyeshadow Palette
This one is an oldie but a goodie! I recently rediscovered this palette & now I'm addicted to it all over again. It is designed to be a dupe for Urban Decay's Naked 1 palette, however I don't own the Naked 1 so I can't really compare. However the quality of these eyeshadows is amazing compared to similar priced brands I've tried. This palette is only £4!! What a steal!

Make Up Revolution Contour Palette in Ultra Fair
This is definitely one of the better MUR products I've tried! The colour pay-off the bronzer & highlighter is amazing. I also really like the tone of the all matte bronzer, as it's quite cool toned. The only thing that I'm not a big fan of the blush, due to it's lack of pigment. Overall though for the price (approximately £4) it's definitely a great contouring starter kit.

Vaseline

Calling all lazy girls out there, this product is for you!

This isn't a new product, but it is great & definitely worth a try.
This is Vaseline's Spray & Go moisturiser.

It is literally that. A spray on body lotion/ moisturiser.

I tried this product when it very first came out years ago & then it was great. They rebranded & relaunched it last year(or so), so I picked it up again. I always pick this up if I'm going away, as its so quick & easy to use.

I love this product! It's so simple & easy to use. I really don't have time for body butters, I like them, but all it does is get under my nails (which makes my cringe). This moisturiser is also quite light, so it sinks into the skin really quickly. Getting dressed straight away, no problem!

If you have super super dry skin though, it probably won't give you the amount of moisture you need, so if you're suffering with quite dry skin I'd advise something heavier like a body butter.

This is an lazy/ busy girl essential in my opinion. If you are ever in a rush but need to moisturise your body this will be your best friend.

They do also have other scents & types in the collection like cocoa butter, which might be more moisturising. So check them out when you're next in the drugstore.

They also go on offer quite often too, so keep an eye out if you're not fancying the full price!

NYX Contour Delight!

Calling all pale people, this one is for you!
Well, it's not strictly for you, but have a read.

Last year I purchased the NYX Highlight & Contour Pro Palette from Boot.com, yes NYX is now available at Boots online. For any American folk, NYX is quite difficult to get hold of in the UK but not anymore (yay).

So the palette itself retails for £18.00, which you might think is quite a lot for NYX but this palette is totally worth the price. It is also a lot cheaper than some of the cult contour palettes out there, just saying.

The packaging is simple, which I like a lot. Be aware that the powders do jiggle a little in the palette, it's nothing to worry about. I believe it's because you can replace individual shades if you run out (I'm not sure on the availability of replaces in the UK).
The palette contains two shimmer highlights, two matte highlights & 4 matte bronzing/ contouring shades.

The powders themselves are super soft & buttery. They blend really well too, which is what you want from a contour palette! They are also quite pigmented, but not too pigmented if you know what I mean. The shades in the palette are very buildable & there is something for all skin shades too.

This is where the 'pale part' comes in. The two left hand highlight shades are perfect if you're pale, even someone who is literally white could use these! The shimmer highlight is just gorgeous! When I say shimmer I mean it too, there is no chunky glitter in these shimmer highlights, which makes them look natural on the skin.
As for the contour shades I'll admit some of them I probably won't get much use out of, but I love some of the highlight shades so much it doesn't matter!
If you're a make up artist however, this should definitely be in your kit!

De-stress with Superdrug

I sometimes find it's hard to pick up a cheaper face mask from the drugstore. However Superdrug now have their own range of these.
There are six different mud masks in this range, which all target different skin needs.
This ranges from purifying, exfoliating, detoxifying, you name it!

The one I've tried from the range is the De-stressing Aloe Vera Mud Mask.
Honestly I went with this one simply because my skin can be sensitive to certain products so I thought I'd be pretty safe trying the Aloe Vera one.

This mask is a very gentle mask. So if you're not wanting for anything crazy in a face mask you'll love this.
I find this mask to not do that much for my skin. However it is nice a quick little skin 'pick me up'.
It isn't chunky & doesn't dry out really quick, which is great because some mud masks dry out far too quickly.
The packaging is actually really good too! I have quite long nails & really don't get on with tubs/ pots too well. A lot of girls will feel me on this one, I'm sure.

I would like to try some of the other masks from the range, especially the detoxifying one.
For only £2.59 I can't see any reason not to have them all to be honest!

If you're just starting to get into face masks I'd highly recommend these as they quite basic masks & don't have any scary effects like heating or tingling.

Keratin Smooth Treatment

Sometimes hair can get a little dry & lose some of the natural keratin. So to prevent breakage we need to restore some of this keratin. One way of doing this is a keratin treatment.

You can go to salon professionals for a more intense keratin treatment, however Tresemme have produced an at home equivalent!

The product claims to smooth the hair, reduce frizz & just overall make hair more manageable.
It also claims to last up to four washes, so you don't have to use this product after every wash.

All these claims sound amazing, and make for a great product if it does work.

After testing it myself I can say that it does work! I'm not convinced on the 7 day part, however after using the treatment my hair was super smooth & significantly less frizzy. It didn't help with the detangling my hair much though (my hair is the worst for getting knotty)!

Some advise I would give, is to use a few pumps less than the bottle says to use, unless you have super long hair. Also make sure you are properly blow drying your hair when you use this product. If you half dry your hair it is just sit in your hair, which is not ideal.

Some other good points to this product is it smells amazing & that it doesn't leave your hair feeling greasy or heavy!

Overall if you have extreme frizz I would still recommend a salon, but if you are looking for something to help with a little hair management/ treatment this is definitely worth a go for the price tag.

Back to School Make Up

So the summer holidays are drawing to a close (sorry to anyone going back to school).
However that can sometimes means the pressure to return to school looking fresh.

Firstly don't let the pressure get to you! You do you!

However if you are looking for a fresh, clean & simple make up look for the new term check out this tutorial!

I've tried to pick drugstore products that aren't going to break the bank!
So this look is about using less products to save yourself some pennies.

For the base we'll be using a tinted moisturiser as I don't feel foundation is necessary for school (unless you are suffering with your skin & prefer more coverage).

We're also keeping the eyes simple, using one colour of cream shadow & just mascara.
As with the brows & only using a tinted gel.

I have also put in some optional extras, like the primer, blush & bronzer.

So watch the tutorial here:

I hope you all had a great summer holiday!

Extraordinary Oil!

Hair oil, something that at first seems kinda scary but is really a haircare essential!
I have already done a hair oil review on here previously on the Natural World Coconut Water Hair Oil which I love.

This L'Oreal Elvive hair oil is no different!

I love hair oils in general & this one has to be my current favourite! L'Oreal have a few different hair oils in their range, I like to use the one formulated for coloured hair (for obvious reasons).
This hair oil is not only formulated for coloured hair but it also has UV filtered in it to protect your hair from sun damage.
I love this feature as my ends can get pretty dry if I'm out in the sun a lot.

This like most hair oils can be used in a variety of ways, I tend to use it mostly to nourish the ends of my hair. I do this most days, especially on days when I've washed my hair. It works great on dry or damp hair.
It also isn't too greasy, I find this quite a dry oil. It's kind of like the perfect in-between of the two! It's super nourishing but not so greasy that you hate the result.

This does have quite a strong scent to it, however I think it's quite a nice scent. It's a sweet & somewhat fruity scent.

Overall I would definitely recommend this hair oil, it's a drugstore product that doesn't get enough hype in my opinion! It retails for £9.99, however if you shop around you'll likely find it on offer somewhere.

Pout Paint

I think this year is the year of trying new brands. As this is another 'first product' by the brand Sleek.
Sleek is UK available drugstore brand.

This product is meant to be similar to the OCC Lip Tars, it's a liquid lipstick style product but in a squeezy tube.

Firstly the packaging although small and compact can be a bit of a pain as you only need the tiniest amount of this product and it's easy to squeeze out too much. So be warned, go with the saying 'less is more'.

They have a mix of natural & bright colour so if you're a make up artist these could be a great option.
The product also has an oily base to it, so it's quite a nourishing non-drying formula.

The wear time is pretty good, I would say at least 4 - 6 hours wear. Which I'd say is about average for a liquid lipstick. It doesn't seem to break up as much or as quickly as some other liquid lipsticks I've tried, I would imagine this is due to the oil base.

It's a little difficult to remove, however I find that micellar water does the best job!

Blackhead Busting Products

Blackheads, I hate them, you hate them, we all hate them.
They are also a right pain to get rid of too!

So I wanted to talk a bit about some of my favourite products to get rid of blackheads & reduce visible pores.

The first product I like to use & the very first step in my everyday skincare routine is the Neutrogena Blackhead Eliminating daily scrub. I have been using this product for years & whenever I try to use other scrubs I hate them and just go straight back to this. This suits my skin perfectly.
It's a scrub that's not too harsh but still cleans your face deep down.
This product has micro beads in it to help remove blackheads and remove grease from blocking any pores. This is why I also find it prevents me from getting many spots.

The second product is the Biore Deep Cleasning Pore Strips, when these works (they're a bit hit & miss) they're great. You apply the strips to problem areas with blackheads, leave them for approximately 10 minutes then rip them off quickly. This results in them pulling blackheads clean off your face and the proof is on the strip!

Both of these products are available at the drugstore too!

The last product is the GlamGlow Clearing Treatment mask. I like to use this just on my blackhead areas & spots, as it is an expensive mask. I find this is great for reducing pores and removing blackheads. After I've used this mask my skin just looks brighter, clearer & cleaner!

Check out the video here:

Let me know your favourite blackhead products in the comments!

Kate's Nudes

New product launch!
Rimmel have just launched a new nude lipstick range under their Kate Moss lipstick line.

There are five shades in the range & they have also released a range of nude nail polishes along side these.

I imagine the aim of this line is to compete with Maybelline's nude lipstick collection, however I've never seen them available in the UK.

I picked up two shades from the range which I felt were the best for my skin tone. The shades I got were 42 & 45.

My general thought on the range is that it's a bit pale. I feel like there isn't much choice for women of colour. I've very pale and even I couldn't wear some of the lightest shades in this range without result being 'concealer lips'. Which is not a look I like!

With regards to the formulation of these lipsticks, they're a creamy slightly glossy finish. I think a similar range with a matte formulation would be a great next step for Rimmel!
They are very comfortable lipsticks to wear as well, which I like.

Above are some swatches of the two shades I got, 42 is on the left & 45 on the right.
Granted, to some these shades look very similar but each is slightly different & will suit certain skin tones better than others.

My personal favourite is 45, I feel like the slight pink tone suits my skin tone & hair better.

At only £5.49, I definitely think they're worth checking out.

Hopefully you can find one that's your perfect nude!
I'm actually hoping they expand the collection from only five lipstick as more shades are definitely needed.

Lash Princess

We all want princess lashes right?
Well that's what this mascara by Essence claims to do!

This is the first Essence product that i have ever tried, as it isn't that readily available in the UK (that I know of).
You know what I love it!

I think that mascara is one thing that can be done well at the drugstore. This mascara is one of those mascaras!

It has a really unique wand thats curved in a wave shape (sounds weird I know) & this shape works really well! It is a plastic wand, which generally I prefer with mascaras. The wand holds just the right amount of product so that you get a decent first coat, but not so much that it results in clumpy lashes.
I would recommend doing two coats to these mascara if you want more volume.

I would say it's more of a lengthening mascara than volumising but it still makes your lashes look amazing.

A Simple skin routine

Brand rave alert!

The brand in question is Simple.

They are a skincare brand know for their sensitive skin products. If you have sensitive skin you probably know all about this brand & are saying 'YAS' right now.

I love this brand, I have sensitive skin, especially around my eyes so I find Simple to be the perfect brand for me. So I wanted to talk to you guys a little about my 'to go' Simple products.

So firstly there's the Light Daily Moisturiser which I use most days as it's a great moisturiser that doesn't leave me feeling greasy halfway through the day. It also sinks into the skin really quickly, which makes it great to apply before your make up. All Simple products are unscented as well in case you hate heavily scented skincare.

The second product is their Soothing Eye Balm. Like I said the skin about my eyes gets very sensitive & dry so this product is perfect. It is the only eye cream I feel truly safe using on my eyes as I know it doesn't sting/ or have any irritants in it. A little goes a long way with this product so a tube lasts for ages too.

The last product I'm going to mention is their micellar water, which I already have a blog post on here. This is again a great sensitive eye product. It's the only make up remover I can use on my eyes (other than facial wipes) that doesn't sting and actually removes the make up properly. This is my favourite skin discovery of the year so far!

If you haven't tried anything from the Simple brand I would definitely recommend you do so.
Especially if you have sensitive skin on any part of your face.
The ranges are also really affordable too!

One Heck of a Blot!

Soap & Glory are brand that I love in generally.
They're body care range is just amazing, however I only have a few things from their make up range.

One of these things is their 'One Heck of a Blot' blotting powder.

I purchased this because their were quite a few beauty vloggers raving about it.

However after using it for quite a few months I don't think its that great, sadly. I think it does a decent  job when you apply it, however I feel like it doesn't keep my matte for very long.
If you're happy to & have the time to re-apply throughout the day then you'll probably get on just fine with this product.

I do like that it's a translucent powder though, as being pale makes it hard to find making coloured powders.

As you can see I ave hit pan on this powder so it can't be that bad, however I don't think I'll be in a rush to repurchase this product.
Especially for the price!

If you have any recommendation please comment below.

Sunday Skin Secrets: Simple Micellar Water

In the beauty world micellar waters are a very hyped product, however it wasn't until recently that they've become quite readily available at the drugstore.

I believe Garnier were the first company to release theirs, which I haven't tried.
The brand that interested me was Simple.

I use quite a few different Simple products and generally love their skincare range.
There has only been one product by the brand that didn't agree with my skin, which was the eye make up remover.

Which leads me nicely onto my next point. This product is the only make up removing product I have ever been able to use on my eyes! This is a revelation to me! So if you have really sensitive eyes I would advise giving this a go! (Face wipes obviously work but I hate using them).

This product really has changed my skincare routine! I love it!
It's my go to product for removing make up & for beginning my nighttime routine. To me it's just perfect!
As it's by Simple it has no scent which I also really like, I think make up removers especially shouldn't have a scent.

Overall the only problem I have with this product is that the bottle isn't that big (200ml), I've finished a bottle in only a month...
Oops...
But that shows how much I've used it & love it!

Boire Strips

I think I can safely say that everyone hates blackheads!
We try all sorts of products to get rid of them but they are notoriously hard to get rid of.

So this leads me onto the Bioré Deep Cleansing Pore Strips.
These are a very talked about product in the beauty world for removing blackheads.

You can buy them as just nose strips or, as picture above, nose & face strips.

Personally I have very mixed feelings on this product. I feel like sometimes they work & sometimes they don't (sound weird I know)!
I think you have to have seriously BAD blackheads for this to work, but equally ones that aren't too embedded into the skin. The more embedded they are the hard it will be for the strip to stick to them.

They work in a very simple way though. You simply wet your skin and stick them on. Leave them for roughly 10 minute & pull them off! You can see if they've worked as you'll see the blackheads stuck to the strip.

The other thing that kind of bothers me about these is that they're aren't that cheap for what they are. They start from £7.99 for just the nose strips, this works out to be £1.33 a strip.

I find that a bit crap when they don't always work!

Anyway if you really struggle with blackheads I would advise giving them a go, but try & catch them on sale.

Barry M Contour Kit

Contouring is all the rage right now. Make up companies being make up companies have jumped on this & now everyone is bringing out contouring sets.
However I haven't seen much at the drugstore, apart from this!

This is the Barry M Flawless Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit.

This kits retails for only £6.49, which is a lot more reasonable than some of the higher end kits.

The question is though does it work?
Generally I'd say Barry M don't do well on the make up front, I love their nail polishes but their make up just isn't quite up to the job usually.

I say usually because I actually really like this kit!
It has three shades in it, one highlight and two contour. It does also have some instructions on the inside cover of the packaging too for those of you who aren't contouring pros.

The highlight shade is the one thing that I think lets this kit down a bit, I can use it as it's not too dark (usually they are) but I just don't reach for it as it's about the same as my skin tone & not lighter.
The middle shade is quite a warm matte bronze shade, which I would say it best used as a bronzer or two aid in blending your contour.
The third shade (on the right) is a more cool toned contour shade which I find really nice to use for my contour. It looks quite dark but it doesn't come up too dark as even pale old me can use it.

The powders are easy to blend and feel really finely milled which is great.
I also get quite a long wear time out of this powder, approximately 10 hours.

So for me this is a win product!
Cheap, works, suitable for pale skin & long wearing!

So if you're looking to try a contour kit but don't want to break the bank give this one a try.
