Flawless Matte

Matte eyeshadows are a staple item in any make up kit, however most palettes tend to have very few or none at all! This is where matte palettes can really come into their own, much like this one by Make Up Revolution.

I have tried a few products by Make Up Revolution before, including eyeshadows & they have been a little hit or miss.

So this palette is their Flawless Matte ultra eyeshadow palette. The palette consists of a mixture of cool & warm tone matte eyeshadows. The first thing I will have to credit them on is the mirror in here, it's great! A decent size & good quality.

So although that is nice, what about the eyeshadows themselves.
I obviously haven't tried every single eyeshadow in here, but having tried quite a few I can say they are again very hit or miss. The more I try drugstore eyeshadow palettes the more I think that you really do get what you pay for with eyeshadows!
There is also no correlation on which shades are good or bad, it's literally a lucky dip.

I find this a real shame as this palette had the potential to be great, but unless your really are on a budget & aren't too fussed about the quality, then I wouldn't recommend this palette. I would say, to get the use & moneys worth I'd save up for a better palette.

Yankee Winter Unboxing

Looking for a great little stocking filler? Here it is!
Yankee Candle's Home Inspiration Winter collection.

I noticed this set was on offer in Asda last week at only £5! What a bargain!
It comes with six of Yankee's small candles in a variety of Christmassy/ Winter scents. The scents are all very nice, although I think my favourite is the Candy Cane Forest!

I've actually already brunt some of these candles, they don't kick off that much scent, however I think that's just due to the size! They do burn very evenly & are definitely worth more than 84p each!

So grab them now, whilst they still have them in the shops!

MUA Luxe Liquid Lip

Liquid lipsticks are still a hot topic in the beauty community, and I'm just starting to get into it myself. I already own a few liquid lipsticks, however I haven't been completely satisfied with them.
I also am a bit reluctant to splash my cash on them because of this.

So I wanted to try so more drugstore ones. These ones I've had my eye on for a while, as they have some really cool & interesting shades (as you can see). These are MUA - Make Up Academy's Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquers.
I did only pick up a few shades, which are Potent (right above) & Unity (left above).

Firstly, value of money. These are more than worth the spend. At only £3 per lip lacquer you could easily buy the whole collection for the price of some other liquid lipsticks. These definitely fall right into the 'dupe' section!
Another thing about these is the packaging. For the price I really think they've done an amazing job of making them look more expensive. The frosted glass style packaging makes them look so much more high end. They're definitely cute enough to display on your vanity.

So onto the formulation! I would have to say I quite like it! It dries down quickly, but not so quick that you can't correct any mistakes. It also is very comfortable to wear, which is the problem with most liquid lips I've tried. I will say after about 6/7 hours of wear they begin to back up a bit & flake. However chances are I won't be wearing them that long generally.
Above is a swatch of both colours. As you can see the left is a little patchy, which these can be, however they are very buildable. I would recommend doing at least two coats just to be sure & to get the best wear time.

Also is it me, or does Unity (left) look a little like Cashmere by Lime Crime... just saying!

WoodWick Wax Melts

This year has been a real year of discovery for me when it comes to home fragrance!
I have found some awesome candle brands & got onto the wax melt hype..

In fact, a little too much I think!
I recently ordered a load of different wax melts off Amazon. The brand I purchased are WoodWick melts, which if you know me you'll know I'm obsessed with their candles.
I have a review of their candles here.

Firstly, I'm going to say if you can get to a shop to purchase these, I would definitely advise that over ordering online like myself. Although I like most of these scents, there is one here that I really am not a fan of (if you're wondering it's the Vanilla Bourbon).

I actually have an electric wax melter, which are perfect for scenting your home! Mine is by a brand called Scentsy, but there are quite a lot of different companies that make them now. They're great for so many reasons. One they're cheaper & the melts last longer than some candles (yes we burn them that much). Two they have no naked flame or anything that's too dangerous if you accidentally leave it on.

These wax melts come in different sizes & packaging. They can come in single, large multi-packs or these (photographed above) skinny ones. The singles & large multi-packs are my favourites as you only need one of them. To be honest, the singles I usually break in half. In comparison the skinny ones require two blocks per use to get the best scent result out of them.

Overall I really like these melts. They're great value for money & for the most part smell amazing.
The only negative for me is removing them, they do tend to stick!

£1 Brow Pencil

We all love a bargain, especially when it comes to make up!
There quite a few ranges in the UK that have products as cheap as only £1.

Now, like a lot of people I would imagine that the quality of some of these £1 items is a bit hit & miss. Although I haven't many items from these ranges so it is hard for me to say.

The £1 item we're going to be reviewing today is the Make Up Academy (MUA) Eyebrow Pencil.

So the pencil itself is duel ended, the one end is the pencil whilst the other is a brush. Now I have to say it's not the usual brush shape, it's just a flat brush. However I feel like it's quite a decent brush, especially given the low price of the product.

The pencil is available in three shade I think, blonde, brown & black. So if you're a redhead this product probably won't suit you very well. The shade I have is brown.
So the shade range is rather limited & to be honest the brown for me is too dark.

The quality of the pencil is actually alright, it's not too dry or to waxy. It is pretty easy to sharpen too, as in it doesn't break off really easy. I think with pencils it's all down to having them sharp, if they're sharp they are generally all alright & this one is no different.

Overall I'd say it's an alright product, however it's not something I reach for as I prefer to use powder to fill in my brows.

Candle Belle

I love discovering new candles, sad I know but I love anything that is nicely scented.
I noticed this company pop up online called Candle Belle.

I'll be honest it was their branding/ packaging that attracted me to their website & of course they had an offer didn't they (I swear shops do this on purpose). So I picked up two different scented candles, which came to £20, so £10 each.
So now a bad price at all really.

However I'm very quickly realising that with candles you get what you pay for. As nice as the branding is on these candles they really aren't that great.
They're a dual wick candle so, in theory, they should burn relatively evenly. However these candles just don't!
I've tried burning them for at least 3-4 hours so that they even out, but it's just not happening which is such a shame as it means I'm going to be wasting a lot of the actual candle here.

Another issue I have with these candles is that they smell really nice & strong in the jar, however once lit they kick off vertically no smell/ scent. Kind of defeats the object of a scented candle, for me anyway.

So overall not a great review, but I would rather be honest with you all & save you some money!

Summer is well & truly on it's way so it's time to crack out the cocktails!
When it comes to refreshing, nothing out does a mojito.

This mojito was made using Funkin Cocktails Mojito 3 step Mixer, however you'd never know.
It tastes exactly like any Mojito I've had out.

If you want to add those extra touches (maybe if you're throwing a party) just add in a few mint leaves & a slice of lime on the side. These mixers are perfect for parties, as they taste & look the real deal. The fact that it's actually a mixer, you just add alcohol to, can be your little secret ;)

So check out Funkin Cocktails to get your hands on the lazy girls summer drink staple!
Simply add alcohol, get that tan on & relax with some girlfriends.

PS. You can make this as weak or strong as you like. Have fun & drink responsibly lovelies.

Budget Bests

We all love a good bargain don't we.
So here five are of my favourite budget friendly drugstore beauty products on the market.

Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint
These are possibly my favourite nail polish formula around. They're super cheap at £3.99 & are the perfect way to fake the gel nail look. They also have a huge range of colours from brights to dark & vampy! The formula is pretty good, mine generally don't clip for 3/4 days & start to go a little dull after about 5 days. I would recommend these polishes to any & everyone!

Rimmel Kate Moss Nude Lipsticks
Nude lips are still on trend right now & let's face it they always will be really. These ones from Rimmel are completely matte & have pretty good pay off. For a £7 (approximately) lipstick you really can't complain. I have a few shades from this collection however 45 is my favourite.

Natural World Coconut Water Hair Oil
I really wanted to throw something hair related in this mix, as some hair products can be a bit pricey. Hair oils especially can be quite expensive, however they do generally last a long time! This hair oil firstly, smells incredible. It's worth buying for the scent alone. It is also super moisturising & nourishing for your hair. It is also a non-greasy oil, which is a feature I love!

Make Up Academy Undress Eyeshadow Palette
This one is an oldie but a goodie! I recently rediscovered this palette & now I'm addicted to it all over again. It is designed to be a dupe for Urban Decay's Naked 1 palette, however I don't own the Naked 1 so I can't really compare. However the quality of these eyeshadows is amazing compared to similar priced brands I've tried. This palette is only £4!! What a steal!

Make Up Revolution Contour Palette in Ultra Fair
This is definitely one of the better MUR products I've tried! The colour pay-off the bronzer & highlighter is amazing. I also really like the tone of the all matte bronzer, as it's quite cool toned. The only thing that I'm not a big fan of the blush, due to it's lack of pigment. Overall though for the price (approximately £4) it's definitely a great contouring starter kit.

Faux Fur

Can we take a moment to talk about my new favourite statement item.
This is a faux fur coat!

I have been after a faux fur coat for years now, but being short can make it very tricky as a lot of them are just too long. Which although is very cosy, makes for a Cousin It sort of look (not cool).

This one I actually got for my birthday last fall & it's by Missguided.

This coat comes in at £65, which in my opinion is very reasonable! So my advise to you would have to be shop around, don't just look at shops like Topshop & River Island. There are some great & unique styles available on cheaper online shops.
Also, as we're talking faux fur I really don't see why you should be spending hundreds of pounds on this style of coat. As I don't really want mine to look like real fur.

These are great piece to have in your wardrobe for many reasons. Firstly they are warm, so in the bitter winter months they're an easy way to look chic whilst keeping warm! Another thing is that they can dress up ANY outfit, very much like the outfit I'm wearing here. It really is a day to night piece!
Also if you're not a fan or just dislike the layered look in winter, these completely remove the need for it.

So overall in my opinion as great investment piece, that doesn't necessarily have to break the bank!
What more could you ask for.

De-stress with Superdrug

I sometimes find it's hard to pick up a cheaper face mask from the drugstore. However Superdrug now have their own range of these.
There are six different mud masks in this range, which all target different skin needs.
This ranges from purifying, exfoliating, detoxifying, you name it!

The one I've tried from the range is the De-stressing Aloe Vera Mud Mask.
Honestly I went with this one simply because my skin can be sensitive to certain products so I thought I'd be pretty safe trying the Aloe Vera one.

This mask is a very gentle mask. So if you're not wanting for anything crazy in a face mask you'll love this.
I find this mask to not do that much for my skin. However it is nice a quick little skin 'pick me up'.
It isn't chunky & doesn't dry out really quick, which is great because some mud masks dry out far too quickly.
The packaging is actually really good too! I have quite long nails & really don't get on with tubs/ pots too well. A lot of girls will feel me on this one, I'm sure.

I would like to try some of the other masks from the range, especially the detoxifying one.
For only £2.59 I can't see any reason not to have them all to be honest!

If you're just starting to get into face masks I'd highly recommend these as they quite basic masks & don't have any scary effects like heating or tingling.

Pure Vanilla

As a home fragrance lover vanilla candles are basically an essential!
I don't know a single candle company that don't do a vanilla scent, because well it's just a perfect scent.

If you're looking for something more on the cheap end of the candle scale, I'd recommend this candle.

This is one of Ikea's Sinnlig candles. These are their one wick candles which are only £2.50!
They burn for up to 40 hours, and come in varying scents.
They are scented & smell more when burnt, however they aren't very strong. They don't quite fill a room like a Yankee Candle or other branded candles do. If you don't like overly scented candles though, you'll love these.

Overall an essential candle for me. I keep one pretty much everywhere, including the toilet in my studio (haha).

Keratin Smooth Treatment

Sometimes hair can get a little dry & lose some of the natural keratin. So to prevent breakage we need to restore some of this keratin. One way of doing this is a keratin treatment.

You can go to salon professionals for a more intense keratin treatment, however Tresemme have produced an at home equivalent!

The product claims to smooth the hair, reduce frizz & just overall make hair more manageable.
It also claims to last up to four washes, so you don't have to use this product after every wash.

All these claims sound amazing, and make for a great product if it does work.

After testing it myself I can say that it does work! I'm not convinced on the 7 day part, however after using the treatment my hair was super smooth & significantly less frizzy. It didn't help with the detangling my hair much though (my hair is the worst for getting knotty)!

Some advise I would give, is to use a few pumps less than the bottle says to use, unless you have super long hair. Also make sure you are properly blow drying your hair when you use this product. If you half dry your hair it is just sit in your hair, which is not ideal.

Some other good points to this product is it smells amazing & that it doesn't leave your hair feeling greasy or heavy!

Overall if you have extreme frizz I would still recommend a salon, but if you are looking for something to help with a little hair management/ treatment this is definitely worth a go for the price tag.

Sea Breeze Delight

I think a bit of candle talk is long overdue guys! Don't you?

So my current obsession is this Ikea candle It's always hard with Ikea candles because they don't have names. However this one I like to call Sea Breeze, as that's what the smell reminds me of.

The scent is lovely soft yet slightly salty coconut scent.
Basically the smell of holiday!

Who doesn't look that smell?

If you guys read my blog much you'll know by now that I love things that smell of coconut anyway.
Coconut & vanilla are just perfect to me!

They re-formulated these candles last year & I have to say since they have been 100% better. They burn really evenly, last for up to 40 hours, are cheap & smell amazing!
What more could you ask for from a candle.

I think the main thing I like about these candles, is that they are so damn cheap for their size. These candles last me for ages & I burn candles pretty regularly. I love more luxurious candles however I see them as a bit of a treat as I don't always like spending a lot on candles. So these Ikea ones are perfect if you love having a lot of candles around but don't want to break the bank!

I would definitely recommend!

Lash Princess

We all want princess lashes right?
Well that's what this mascara by Essence claims to do!

This is the first Essence product that i have ever tried, as it isn't that readily available in the UK (that I know of).
You know what I love it!

I think that mascara is one thing that can be done well at the drugstore. This mascara is one of those mascaras!

It has a really unique wand thats curved in a wave shape (sounds weird I know) & this shape works really well! It is a plastic wand, which generally I prefer with mascaras. The wand holds just the right amount of product so that you get a decent first coat, but not so much that it results in clumpy lashes.
I would recommend doing two coats to these mascara if you want more volume.

I would say it's more of a lengthening mascara than volumising but it still makes your lashes look amazing.

Sunday Skin Secrets: Simple Micellar Water

In the beauty world micellar waters are a very hyped product, however it wasn't until recently that they've become quite readily available at the drugstore.

I believe Garnier were the first company to release theirs, which I haven't tried.
The brand that interested me was Simple.

I use quite a few different Simple products and generally love their skincare range.
There has only been one product by the brand that didn't agree with my skin, which was the eye make up remover.

Which leads me nicely onto my next point. This product is the only make up removing product I have ever been able to use on my eyes! This is a revelation to me! So if you have really sensitive eyes I would advise giving this a go! (Face wipes obviously work but I hate using them).

This product really has changed my skincare routine! I love it!
It's my go to product for removing make up & for beginning my nighttime routine. To me it's just perfect!
As it's by Simple it has no scent which I also really like, I think make up removers especially shouldn't have a scent.

Overall the only problem I have with this product is that the bottle isn't that big (200ml), I've finished a bottle in only a month...
Oops...
But that shows how much I've used it & love it!

Barry M Contour Kit

Contouring is all the rage right now. Make up companies being make up companies have jumped on this & now everyone is bringing out contouring sets.
However I haven't seen much at the drugstore, apart from this!

This is the Barry M Flawless Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit.

This kits retails for only £6.49, which is a lot more reasonable than some of the higher end kits.

The question is though does it work?
Generally I'd say Barry M don't do well on the make up front, I love their nail polishes but their make up just isn't quite up to the job usually.

I say usually because I actually really like this kit!
It has three shades in it, one highlight and two contour. It does also have some instructions on the inside cover of the packaging too for those of you who aren't contouring pros.

The highlight shade is the one thing that I think lets this kit down a bit, I can use it as it's not too dark (usually they are) but I just don't reach for it as it's about the same as my skin tone & not lighter.
The middle shade is quite a warm matte bronze shade, which I would say it best used as a bronzer or two aid in blending your contour.
The third shade (on the right) is a more cool toned contour shade which I find really nice to use for my contour. It looks quite dark but it doesn't come up too dark as even pale old me can use it.

The powders are easy to blend and feel really finely milled which is great.
I also get quite a long wear time out of this powder, approximately 10 hours.

So for me this is a win product!
Cheap, works, suitable for pale skin & long wearing!

So if you're looking to try a contour kit but don't want to break the bank give this one a try.

Fragrance Lovin' #1

Fragrances! I love them!
Hence this blog post!

This is Tommy Hilfiger Loud (hers). I picked this fragrance up a while ago and it was an absolute bargain at £8 for 40ml!

Primarily I got this fragrance just because it was such a great offer, however over the last year it has become my staple fragrance.

It's an eau de toilette, so it's not as potent as a perfume. However I still feel like this fragrance lasts for hours! Better than some of my proper perfumes!

The notes include rose & patchouli. When I say rose, I don't mean old lady rose scent if you know what I mean.
I find it to be quite a light day to night fragrance. It's not too heavy for the daytime but it also isn't so light and casual that it's not enough for the evening. I like to wear this fragrance when I'm working as I feel it's ideal for this sort of situation. It isn't too offensive but it still says I've made an effort with my fragrance.

I feel like this is quite an underrated fragrance!
I swear it reminds me of a Gucci fragrance too, so it could be a bit of a dupe.

You can pick it up at Debenhams for £27.50.
So if you're looking for a nice daytime fragrance I'd definitely recommend it!

Ikea Candle: The Orange One

I don't know about you guys but I love candles, especially ones that smell amazing.
However I'm not one to spend all my money on them!

So I wanted to talk about an absolute bargain of a candle.

This is one of Ikea's candles, which retail for only £2.50.

This one is an orange scented one and oh my god, it is gorgeous!
Such a fresh & lovely scent which I think is suitable for being burnt at any time of year.

This candle is called Sinnlig and they come in a variety of scents and burn for up to 40 hours.

These candles are great if you like to bulk buy. They do kick of some smell but aren't too overpowering, which I think is just perfect. I don't like candles that are too strong.

Which candle scents are your favourite?

Awesome eyeshadows?

I hauled this product back in December & have had quite a few questions about it.
So to me that calls for a review video!

This is the Make Up Revolution Awesome Eyeshadow Collection.

So this is an eye shadow palette combining neutral and colourful eye shadows.
There are 100 eye shadows in the palette & the palette costs only £12!

The colour variety in this palette is great. They also vary in finish which is good.
Although this does result in a differ in pigmentation. The matte shadows aren't as pigmented as the others. I think this is generally the case with more cheap eye shadows though.

Below are some swatches of a few shades out of the palette. You can see the differ in pigmentation here. I would also like to note these swatches aren't from just one swipe, more like three/ four.
