Sunday Skin Secrets #5

Is it terrible that until now I have never tried a Clinique product?
To be honest I just haven't felt the need to, my skin generally is very settled & I don't suffer with dry skin or acne problems. I use mostly drugstore skincare products on my face, as my skin doesn't want for much.

My skin is combination, getting a bit oily in the centre throughout the day.

I got this sample with a magazine, so thought I might as well use it.
You know what I really like it!

This is Clinique's dramatically different moisturising lotion+.
(long name much?)

So it says on the tube that this lotion is very very dry skin, however I would have to disagree. If it was, surely it would make my skin super greasy. It's just the right amount of moisture for my skin!

It's moisturising but doesn't leave me too oily or greasy. I still get a bit of oiliness in the centre of my face, but it's mostly just my chin. This lotion also sinks into the skin really quickly, which makes it great if you're applying make up straight after application.

I thought Clinique products were meant to be quite strong, maybe that's just their acne range(s), but this feels more like a Simple product on the skin. It does have scent to it, but it's nothing too offensive or strong, which is also nice.

Overall a really nice moisturising lotion, it doesn't do anything too dramatic (unlike it's name) but it does help keep your skin balanced & happy!

The price of this ranges from £18 - £38, I think the price does put me off a bit. If I did want to have a splurge though £18 doesn't seem to crazy to me for a good lotion I know works with my skin.

Cup o Coffee

As you all probably know by now I LOVE Lush's Mask of Magnaminty face mask. So I decided to try another mask by them.
This is Lush's Cup O' Coffee face mask.

This mask is an exfoliating mask consisting of a variety of natural ingredients including ground coffee, cocoa extract, fair trade vanilla & more.

So my thoughts on the mask.
I'm going to be honest here I hate the smell of coffee & this stinks of it! The scent is so strong I could still smell it the next morning when I was washing my face in the shower. This initially put me off this mask.
I have used the mask a couple of times now, because if it gave me amazing results I think I could deal with the smell.

When they say this is an exfoliating mask, they aren't kidding!!
I would only recommend this mask if you have extremely oily skin. I have combo skin, with oiliness in the centre of my face & I found this mask to be very drying.
After I washed it off my skin felt too dry to me, so I actually had to use a hydrating treatment (h2o+ hydrating treatment) to add some moisture back to my face.

This mask might also be good for drying out any nasty spots you have, seeing as it is very drying.

Overall thought, not a product for my skin type.

Boire Strips

I think I can safely say that everyone hates blackheads!
We try all sorts of products to get rid of them but they are notoriously hard to get rid of.

So this leads me onto the Bioré Deep Cleansing Pore Strips.
These are a very talked about product in the beauty world for removing blackheads.

You can buy them as just nose strips or, as picture above, nose & face strips.

Personally I have very mixed feelings on this product. I feel like sometimes they work & sometimes they don't (sound weird I know)!
I think you have to have seriously BAD blackheads for this to work, but equally ones that aren't too embedded into the skin. The more embedded they are the hard it will be for the strip to stick to them.

They work in a very simple way though. You simply wet your skin and stick them on. Leave them for roughly 10 minute & pull them off! You can see if they've worked as you'll see the blackheads stuck to the strip.

The other thing that kind of bothers me about these is that they're aren't that cheap for what they are. They start from £7.99 for just the nose strips, this works out to be £1.33 a strip.

I find that a bit crap when they don't always work!

Anyway if you really struggle with blackheads I would advise giving them a go, but try & catch them on sale.

H2O+

We all need water, especially for our skin!
Hydration is an essential part to healthy & glowing skin.

Which is the focus of the brand H2O+'s hydrating treatment.

This is only a sample size of the product however it has lasted me for ages. With this product I feel like a little goes a long way.

This treatment is a blue gel, it also feels like it has a cooling effect to it. I apply this to clean damp skin and leave it to sink into my face. I do find it somewhat hydrating, however I have combo/ oily skin so I feel like my skin doesn't crave hydration very often.
I do make a point of using this every couple of weeks though, because your doesn't have to be dry to need moisture/ hydration.

I feel like at the time it makes me skin feel better, partly because of the cooling feeling. However I'm not 100% sure I see much when I wake up the next morning. Maybe it's just meant for a short-term boost of hydration, I'm not sure.

This product retails for $36 (so approx. £24), personally I'd say it isn't worth that for someone of my skin type. If you have dry skin try & pick up a sample first!

Sunday Skin Secrets #3

It's time for another Sunday skin secrets post!
The topic for today is cleansing oils.
If you don't know cleansing oils are an oil that you use to clean your skin & remove your make up.

Firstly it sounds a little crazy doesn't it, but it's actually a really effective way to cleanse your skin.
They tend to clean deeper into the skin than face wipes and they also contain vitamins which help nourish your skin. They obviously also prevent your cleanser from drying out of your skin!

Don't think that if you have oily skin you can't use cleansing oils, they actually could help.
Applying oils to oily skin tricks the skin into thinking it's too oily & in turn it produces less oil.

Cleansing oils are also similar to cleansing balms.
If you're looking to try one a lot of them are quite expensive, however I did spot this one at the drugstore.

This is the L'Oreal Paris Skin Perfection 15 Second Miracle Cleansing Oil.
This retails for £7.99, but I found it on offer for only £5.33!

I like using this when I have a lot of make up on. I do also like to use an extra product to remove eye make up as I don't like rubbing oil into my eyes too much. It's perfectly fine, does work and doesn't sting, it just personally isn't my preference due to my blepharitis.

It feels really nice on the skin. This particular product does have quite a strong smell even once you've washed it off. So if you don't like scented skincare you probably will find this a bit much.

This product does work really well and makes my skin feel super soft after I've used it.

So if you are looking to get into cleansing oils but don't fancy spending a fortune, give this one a go!

Sunday Skin Secrets #1

Sunday is one of my favourite days, I don't work on sundays so I get to just chill!
With that comes a little extra time for some skincare treats.

This sunday I will be talking about my favourite face scrub EVER.
I have tried quite a few scrubs & face washes but nothing keeps my skin clear like this product.

The product I'm talking about is the Neutrogena visibly clear Blackhead Eliminating Scrub.

So firstly this product is a drugstore skincare brand, so it's very affordable. It retails for only £3.79!
This range tends to go on offer quite a bit as well (e.g. 2 for £5, 3 for 2, etc).

This scrub is obviously aimed at clearing blackheads but I also feel like it works great for spots/ blemishes. I prefer this to Neutrogena's spot control scrub.

There are micro-beads in the scrub which diffuse as you massage it into the skin. This stops the manual exfoliation of the product from being to harsh. If you have very dry skin though it might still be too harsh. I also use this daily like it states on the label, which shows how gentle the product is.

To be honest I think this has to be a 'holy grail' product for me because no scrub I've used works for my skin like this. That said though everyone's skin is different, so please take that into account.
My skin type is combo/ oily.

Surely at only £3.79 it's worth a try anyway?!

A true match!

Foundation has to be the hardest make up product to get right. There are loads of different formulas & textures and don't get me started on shade ranges!

However there is one foundation that I have been using for over a year now & I am completely in love with it.
What makes it even better? Is that it is a drugstore product!

I am talking about the L'Oreal Paris True Match Foundation.

Now the first reason that I love this foundation is due to the amazingly large colour range. They range from cool, neutral to warm tones. So there is a shade for everyone!
They also do really pale shades for people like myself, usually no foundation is light enough for my skin.

Another reason I love this foundation is the coverage. I have pretty good skin so I don't need that much coverage. This foundation is a medium coverage to me and that's how I wear it, however you could build it up to create fuller coverage.

Another great point for this foundation is the packaging. It comes in a glass bottle, which is always nice. It also comes with a pump (in the UK anyway).

I really don't have much negative to say about this foundation. The only thing I wish was a little better is how long it lasts. However using a primer & setting spray does help the wear time.

Some people might also be scared off by the SPF, but it's only 17 so I doubt it's going to make too much difference when taking photos. I personally have never had any problems.

Overall I love this foundation & would reckon it to most people. I have combo to oily skin & it works fine for me, equally it's not drying either though.

The price of this foundation is approx. £9.99.
(However they do go on offer, I just got two for £12!)
